Alan Ray Dobbs, 79, of Waldron, passed away, Thursday, October 12, 2023, at The Willows of Greensburg.

He was born May 28, 1944, in Columbus, the son of Paul and Dorothy (Loy) Dobbs.  On January 21, 1967, he married his devoted wife of 56 years, Mary Beth Green, and she survives.

In addition to Mary Beth, Alan is survived by his loving daughters, Tracy Dobbs and partner, Rebecca Wolf, of Waynesville, Missouri, Susan Parker and husband, John, of Orlando, Florida, and Erin Dobbs of Greenfield; sisters, Carol Joslin and husband, Huerschell, and Phyllis Lynn and husband, Jerry, both of Nashville, and Naomi Greathouse and husband, Gary, of Franklin; grandchildren, Makala Dobbs, Kenzie Parker, Kamryn Parker, Darlene Denno, and Rachel Bennett and husband, Joseph; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Wayne Dobbs, Larry Dobbs and Donald Dobbs; and sister, Virginia Dobbs.

In 1962, he graduated from Columbus High School.

Alan was a 51-year member of the Waldron United Methodist Church, now known as Church of the Risen Christ.  He loved to sing in the choir, serve on the board of trustees and lead the congregational singing.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.

Alan retired from Navistar, as a tool and dye maker, with 25 years of service.

He enjoyed many outdoors activities including hunting, fishing, golfing and boating.  Alan loved to take family vacations to the ocean.

Alan also leaves behind his beloved cat, Piper.

A Celebration of Alan’s life will be at 4 pm, Sunday, November 19, 2023, at the Church of the Risen Christ, 202 West Washington St. in Waldron, with Pastor Dave Galbraith officiating.  Friends may gather one-half hour prior to the celebration.

Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Risen Christ.
