Anthony "Tony" Gahimer

Anthony “Tony” Gahimer, 70, of Manilla passed away Monday, July 16, 2018 at his residence. He was born March 19, 1948, in Shelbyville, the son of Richard and Elizabeth F. (Mitchell) Gahimer. On October 4, 1969, he married Barbara Hall, and she survives. In addition to Barbara, Tony is survived by his son, Shey Gahimer and wife, Lori, of Shelbyville; brothers, Timothy Gahimer and wife, Susan, of New Palestine, and Richard Gahimer of Orlando, Florida; granddaughter, Lillian Gahimer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Tony graduated from Waldron High School in 1966, and attended Vincennes University for two years to study auto mechanics. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving during the Vietnam War. Tony was a farmer, he also owned and operated Gahimer and Son Construction. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, where he taught Sunday school and served on the church council. Tony also formerly served as president of the Blue Ridge Cemetery Board and the Manilla Fire Department Board. Tony was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Manilla Lions Club and Eagles Lodge. He and Barbara liked to travel and had visited almost every state. Tony also enjoyed fishing. He also leaves behind his four dogs. Tony loved to help others and had a true servant’s heart, making an annual trip to the Grundy Mountain Mission School in Virginia, where he helped with repairs to the facilities. He and Shey, also helped with the rebuilding of Henryville after the devastating tornados. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2018 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the Zion United Church of Christ, 7025 E 100 N, Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Pastor Brad Schultz officiating. Interment will be at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Shelby County. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5635 W. 96th St., Suite 100, Indianapolis, Indiana 46278 or Zion United Church of Christ.
