Barry D. Buchanan, 76, of Shelbyville passed away Friday, December 6, 2019 at his home.
He was born May 24, 1943, at Camp Atterbury, the son of Kenneth and Marie (Thompson) Buchanan. On August 20, 1967 at the New Salem United Methodist Church, he married his wife of 52 years, Karen Stevens, and she survives.
In addition to Karen, Barry is survived by his son, Bryan Buchanan and wife, Lynda, of Indianapolis; granddaughter his pride and joy, Tayla Buchanan of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and half-brothers, Robert Leming and William Leming.
Barry received his associates degree at Reitz Electronics.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving for four years.
Barry retired from Howard W. Sams in 2008, with 33 years of service.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 70 in Shelbyville.
Barry enjoyed going to car shows, antique stores and flea markets.
He was an excellent woodworker and made a beautiful chest for his granddaughter.
Barry could repair anything and was always willing to help a friend in need.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 12, 2019 at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, with military graveside rites conducted by the local military committee.
