Betty Mae McCain, 89, of Fairland, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at MHP Medical Center Shelbyville. She was born February 19, 1929, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Julius and Martha (Hill) Neumann. Betty is survived by her son, Mitchell McCain of Fairland; daughter, Tracy A. McCain of Clearwater, Florida; nieces, Tara Lee Krispin and fiancee’, Richard Heidi, and Tamera Eckstein, both of Lafayette; great-niece, Ashley Sisson and husband, Josh; and great-great-nephew, Xander Sisson. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her only sister, Martha “Jean” Eckstein. Betty graduated from Moral Township High School in 1947. She was a devoted and founding member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Betty retired from General Electric/Wellman in 1995, with 40 years of service. She enjoyed writing poetry, decorating and working crossword puzzles. Betty also enjoyed watching the news and reading the newspaper, to stay up on current affairs. Betty loved her spending time with her family and caring for them. She had a giving heart and supported many charitable organizations, including her church. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 1560 N. Michigan Road, Shelbyville, Indiana. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
