Beverly Kay (Muir) Phillips, 84, of Morristown, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 11, 2022. She was a local retired beautician, as well as, a long-time resident of Morristown.
Beverly was born on August 8, 1937, in Morristown. She was the daughter of Clark Muir and Margaret (Rouse) Cott. She married John O. Phillips on June 16, 1962. John preceded her in death on October 15, 2019. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Gwen Lane.
Beverly is survived by her daughters, Pam Hitch and husband, Mike, of Shelbyville, and Sherry Wood and husband, Kevin, of Morristown; grandchildren, K.C. Wood, Jeremy Brown and wife, Rachel, Tasha Wood McNeil, and Trista Wood; great-grandchildren, Patience Wood, Sidney and Emma Brown, Kingston Lewis-Morgan, and Karter, Kameron and Koleman McNeil.
She is also survived by brothers, Mike Muir, Duane Cott and wife, Becki; sister, Belinda Kinder; along with several nieces and nephews.
Beverly attended Morristown High School. At an early age, she worked for Mom and Pops’ restaurant, Scherer’s Grocery and RCA, where she met her husband. After leaving RCA, she pursued her dream of becoming a beautician and graduated from The House of James Beauty College in 1981. In November of 1985, she opened her own shop, Bev’s Midway Kut & Kurl.
Beverly was an avid sports fan and could often be found watching her favorite teams. She was a huge Indiana University Hoosiers and Bobby Knight fan. Along with loving to watch her favorite college and professional sports, she would attend her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s events. Beverly was known by many, especially her grandchildren, as “Nanny.” Nanny was a caregiver, a gardener, an amazing cook and baker. She enjoyed bowling, spending time with her family, and traveling. She loved her travels to Las Vegas and Hawaii.
Beverly was a member of the Morristown United Methodist Church and supported the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 102, for several years.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown.
Graveside services will be at 1:15 p.m. Thursday at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.
