Bonnie Lou Harris, 82, of Fairland, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis.

She was born July 21, 1940, the daughter of Dorothy (Pittman) Miller.  On April 14, 1962, she married her husband of 61 years, Dale Carvin Harris, and he survives.

In addition to Dale, Bonnie is survived by her daughters, Nicolette Linn Harris of Fairland, and Cindy Suzanne Harris-Dost, and husband, Robert, of Pittsboro; grandchildren, Ashlee Lyn Harris, Rachel Ann Hutchinson, and Cameron Scott Hutchinson and wife, Carlie; and great-grandchildren, Olivia Dixon and Elijah Jones.

She was preceded in death by her mother; and brother, Martin P. Miller.

Bonnie graduated in 1958 from Shelbyville High School and attended Ball State University for two years.  She was very active in organizing the Class of 1958 reunions and the Creative Packaging Alumni organization.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville, where she served as a Christian education director for 20 years, Clerk of session for 10 years and was a Deacon.

Bonnie was formerly a hematologist nurse at St. Vincent Hospital, until she became a domestic engineer for her family.

She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.  Her sewing talents enabled her to make costumes for her children.  Bonnie was always willing to take her children to their activities in her “shuttle bus”.  She was the co-founder of the Santa Shop.  Bonnie also enjoyed helping at the school as a teacher’s aide and in the library.

She was also a member of the Shelbyville Order of Eastern Star.

Visitation will be from 10 to Noon Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Private graveside services will be conducted at the Fountaintown Cemetery, with Bill Farmer officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Indiana Chapter, 50 E. 91st St., Suite 100, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240.
