Carl Martin Smith, 63, of Fairland passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Greenwood Healthcare Center in Greenwood. He was born November 21, 1956, in Beech Grove, the son of Harold Lloyd and Jennie Lee (Wright) Smith. On March 8, 1985, he married his wife of 34 years, Kimberly Louise Underwood, and she survives. In addition to Kimberly, Carl is survived by his daughter, Denisa Mulryan and husband, Daniel, of Indianapolis; sons, Austin Smith and wife, Megan, of Avon, Jeffrey Smith of Fairland, and Kevin Smith and fiance’, Kara, of Franklin; sister, Debby Crafton of Shelbyville; and grandchildren, Evie, Elise, Knox, London and Nixon. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jerry Allen Smith. Carl graduated in 1975 from Triton Central High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Carl also served in the Army National Guard from 1976 to 2001. He was a member of the Fairland Baptist and Christian Churches. Carl was the maintenance supervisor at Camp Atterbury until 2017, retiring with 22 years of service. He was an avid Beatles fan and enjoyed Rock and Roll. Carl was a great guitarist. Carl was a member of Prospect Masonic Lodge F&AM No. 714. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2020 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fairland Cemetery in Fairland. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children-Cincinnati, Attn: Development Department, 3229 Burnet Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45229.
