Carolyn Kay Buckley

Carolyn Kay Buckley, 87, of Shelbyville, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville.

She was born November 10, 1938, in Blue Ridge, the daughter of J. Robert and Imogene (Firsich) Karmire.

Carolyn is survived by her son, J. Craig Buckley and wife, Angela, of Manilla; daughters, Alexis Green and husband, Bret, and Rise’ Smith and husband, Larry, both of Shelbyville; brother, Kenneth Karmire and wife, Jean, of Evansville, and Dean Karmire and wife, Kathy, of Salem; sister-in-law, Sandy Henry, of Shelbyville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Nick Green, Blayr Jones and husband, Stuart, Jordan Green and wife, Amy, Carly Buckley, Kendra Buckley and Malerie Smith; great-grandchildren, Tanner Jones, Taylor Jones, Peyton Jones and Cooper Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Stephen Karmire; sister, Candice Karmire; and niece, Greta Karmire.

Carolyn was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church.

In 1956, Carolyn graduated from Shelbyville High School. Carolyn continued her education becoming a registered nurse in 1959, at Saint Vincent School of Nursing.

She formerly worked in soft-lines (women’s clothing) at Walmart for 25 years, retiring in 2014. One of her favorite pastimes was watching old mysteries and dramas on television.

Private graveside services at Saint Vincent DePaul Catholic Cemetery have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 228 E. Hendricks St, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
