Christy "Chris" Ann Jones

Christy “Chris” Ann Jones, 64, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis. She was born March 24, 1954, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Norman and Margaret (Anspaugh) Weintraut. On June 1, 1974, she married her devoted and loving husband of 43 years, Maynard “JJ” Jones, and he survives. In addition to JJ, Chris is survived by her sons, William Jones of Indianapolis, Andrew Jones and significant other, Kerry, of Shelbyville; daughter, Lori Cummings and husband, Jeff, of Fishers; brother, Michael Weintraut and wife, Patsy, of Shelbyville and grandchildren, Brandon Jones, Logan Jones, Grayson Jones, Kaitlyn Barnes, Tessa Cummings and Easton Cummings. She was preceded in death by her parents. Chris graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1972, and Indiana Business College prior to beginning her education in nursing. She received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from Ivy Tech in 1985, and her Registered Nursing degree from Indiana University South Bend in 1996. Chris continued her education at Indiana Wesleyan University, obtaining her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2006 and her Masters of Science in Nursing (Nursing Education) in 2012. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where she served as Parish Council President for two years, was chairperson for the liturgy committee and sang in the choir. Chris formerly worked as a registered nurse in the critical care unit at Community Hospital East, while being a professor at the Indiana University School of Nursing. She was also a member of Cardiovascular Nurses of Indiana and Sigma Theta Tau. Chris enjoyed houseboating with friends and family, as well as, watching birds and squirrels in the yard. Reading and studying the history of World War II was also a favorite pastime of Chris’. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with the rosary recited at 3:30 p.m. by Father Paul Landwerlen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2018 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 4218 E. Michigan Road, Shelbyville, Indiana, with Father Paul Landwerlen officiating. Interment will be at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Chris’ memory may be made to the Perpetual Care Fund at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery to help others with cemetery expenses.
