Clara Lee Trusty, 87, of Fountaintown, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Charter Senior Living of Gateway Park.
She was born on September 18, 1938, in Sterling, Oklahoma, the daughter of Myrl and Helen (Patton) Cooper. On June 14, 1956, Clara married Jon Caton Trusty, Sr., and he preceded her in death on September 18, 2002.
Clara is survived by her son, Joel Trusty and wife, Theresa, of Fishers; daughters-in-law, Angela Trusty and Synthia Trusty; sisters, Sally Risinger of Oklahoma, Peggy Cooper of Texas, and Pam Durant of Indianapolis; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She has a sum total of 15 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to Jon, Clara was preceded in death by her children, Jon Trusty Jr., Jerry Trusty, and Julie Trusty-Nawrot; brothers, Curtis Cooper and Roger Cooper; and sisters, Janet Cooper and Nelda Farrar.
Clara graduated from Evansville Reitz High School in 1956. She attended Indiana University.
She was a member of the Lavendar Ladies.
Clara had many jobs including being a comedian. After her children left the nest, she enjoyed her time spent as a comedian, appearing on the Sally Jessy Raphael, Joan Rivers and Phil Donahue Shows. Clara also won a comedian contest, entitling her to one week in Las Vegas. Another attribute was winning “the husband calling” contest at the Indiana State Fair multiple times.
Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 am, Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison Street in Shelbyville. The funeral service will follow, with Brock Trusty officiating.
Interment will be at Fountaintown Cemetery in Fountaintown.
A Celebration of Clara’s life will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2026 from Noon to 3 pm, at Bradley Hall Events, 2 W. Main St. in Greenfield.
