Darleen Inez Oldham, 91, of Shelbyville passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Walker Place in Shelbyville. She was born June 12, 1927, in Mishawaka, the daughter of Howard Wesley and Inez (Sutherland) Jones. On July 2, 1950, she married Bobby Gene Oldham, and he preceded her in death on October 15, 1978. Darleen is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Bray and husband, Michael, of Shelbyville, and Carrie Zupancic and husband, Tom, of Indianapolis; son, Thomas Oldham and wife, Diana, of Thorntown; sister, Bonnie Childs of Pawpaw, Illinois; brother, John Paul Jones of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Adria Anderson and husband, Todd, Emily Coffey and husband, Jason, Katie Wymer and husband, Kevin, Jacob Zupancic and wife, Kristen, John Zupancic and fiancee’, Alex Guidi, Megan Oldham and companion, Jamil Stafford, Carly Junkins and husband, Ben, Dane Oldham and wife, Jen, Danielle Anderson and husband, Dustin, Haleigh Smith and husband, Vincent, and Matthew Spencer; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Nicholas, Luke, Drake, Trevin, Jase, Parker, Everett, Simon, Stella, Kate, Jace, Jaxon, Maxwell, Ethan and Kaitlyn; close family friend, Gina Karnes of Shelbyville; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to Bob, Darleen was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Deena Beth Spencer; sister, Carole Johnson; and grandson, Todd Spencer. Darleen was a 1945 graduate of Elgin High School in Elgin, Illinois. She was a very active member of the West Street United Methodist Church, where she participated in the United Methodist Women’s Circle No. 3. Darleen was also a member of The Ys Bs, and a 50-year member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She enjoyed quilting and sewing. She and her sisters, owned and operated a sewing shop, making and altering clothing for many people. Darleen loved being a mom and grandmother, often making personalized gifts for her loved ones. She cherished the time she spent with them. She was an avid sports fan, she especially loved the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Cubs. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2018 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery in Shelby County. Memorial contributions may be made to West Street United Methodist Church, 629 South West Street, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
