David G. “Dave” Abel, 73, of Shelbyville passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020, at MHP Medical Center in Shelbyville.
He was born September 19, 1946, in Indianapolis, the son of the late Henry E. and Betty J. (Applegate) Abel.
Dave is survived by his son, David R. Abel of Warwick, New York; sisters, Sheila Rutherford and Sheryl Moore and husband, William A., of Greenwood, Mississippi; brothers, Alan Abel of Lafayette, and Paul Abel of Salt Lake City, Utah; companion, Pauline Buchanan of Shelbyville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Neil Abel and Maynard Abel.
Dave graduated in 1964 from Shelbyville High School, after attending Morristown schools for 11 years.
He had attended Mount Pisgah Baptist Church.
Dave was formerly employed at Novartis Pharmaceuticals in Suffern, New York.
He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and Demolay.
Dave loved to hunt and fish.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at noon on Wednesday at the funeral home, with Rev. Dr. Robb Barlow officiating.
Interment will be at London Cemetery in Shelby County.
