Dona Jean Smith, 94, of near Acton passed away Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville.
She was born February 15, 1925, in Shelby County, the daughter of Merrill and Ethel (Schilling) Plummer. On July 26, 1944, she married Ebert Wayne Smith, and he preceded her in death in 1985.
Dona is survived by her four sons, Steven Smith and wife, Jenness, and Michael “Mike” Smith, both of near Acton, Gregory “Greg” Smith and wife, Millie, of Greensburg, and Jeffrey Smith of Carmel; grandchildren, Shelly, Robyn, Pete, Mark, Scott and Danny; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Avery, Grace, Katie, Nikki, Henry, Samantha, Gavin, Adilynn and Rosaleigh; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to Ebert, Dona was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Bryan; sister, Lavernne “Toots” Abel; and brothers, Raymond “Bus” Plummer and Herb Plummer.
Dona graduated in 1942 from Moral Township High School.
She was a member of Brookfield Baptist Church.
Dona enjoyed gardening, basket weaving and attending family get to gathers. She also enjoyed playing euchre, rummy and pinnacle.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2019 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with John Retter officiating.
Interment will be at Boggstown Cemetery in Shelby County.
