Dorothy Morton

Dorothy Morton, 93, of Fairland, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022, at MHP Medical Center in Shelbyville. She was born October 30, 1928, in Allais, Perry County, Kentucky, the daughter of George and Leaner (Combs) White. Dorothy married Noah Morton, and he preceded her in death on September 1, 1986. Dorothy is survived by her children, Fannie Brown and husband, Randy, of Fairland, Roy Morton of Fairland, Rachel Poling and husband, Rick, of New Palestine, Edith Taylor and husband, Gaylon, of Fairland, Fay Soard and husband, Mitch, of Fairland, Linda Rinker and husband, Greg, of Southport, and Lisa Wynn and husband, Tim, of Fairland; sister, Delphie Howard of North Vernon; grandchildren, Nada Morton Lawburg, Scotty Morton, Melissa Taylor and husband, Martin, Shane Williams and wife, Brittany, Ricky Morton and wife, Sara, Darrel Morton, Timothy Morton and wife, Allison, Christopher Rinker and Aaron Rinker; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to Noah, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Tommy Morton, Norman Morton, Ray Morton and Randy Morton; and siblings, Ettie Ivey, Cappie Gilbert, Ernest White, Ella Jane White, Jerry White, Bethany Wright and Troy White. Dorothy was a member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing and was a prayer warrior. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed canning, after breaking beans with her friends and family. Dorothy could whip up a meal for 20 or more people, in no time. Dorothy also enjoyed quilting. Watching the birds at the bird feeder in her front yard gave her great joy. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2022, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at the funeral home. Interment will be at New Palestine Cemetery in New Palestine. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
