Dortha Jackman

Dortha Jackman, 94, of Shelbyville, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at Heritage Manor. Born July 13, 1910, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Alta (Jones) Porterfield. She married Loren C. Jackman on March 19, 1932, and he preceded her in death on March 25, 1997. Survivors include two nieces, Betty Bedsole of Mount Dora, Fla., and Phyllis (husband, Jim) Miracle of Port Orange, Fla.; one nephew, Norman (wife, Kay) Jackman of Shelbyville; one great-nephew, Douglas Bedsole; and five great-nieces, Melissa (husband, Rob) Parramore, Lori (husband, James) Drake, Alisha (husband, Todd) Grant, Anita Burnette and Kim (husband, Bruce) Nessler. She also was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Mrs. Jackman was a lifelong Shelby County resident. She had been a farmer with her husband and employed with the former National Farm Machinery Corp., PPG and Certainteed Corp., as a secretary and office manager. She retired in 1975. Mrs. Jackman was a Red Cross volunteer at Major Hospital and a volunteer at the Red Cross office. She was a member of Shelby County Diligent Diggers Garden Club and Liberty United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Cliff Bunch officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty United Methodist Church, 6461 N. 150E, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
