Duffy Peter DeRoy

Duffy Peter DeRoy, 74, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, July 31, 2019 at Greenwood Meadows in Greenwood. He was born October 1, 1944, in Knoxville, Tennessee, the son of Adolph and Irene Melia (AuClair) DeRoy. On November 6, 1986, he married Diana Mann, and she preceded him in death on October 15, 2007. Duffy is survived by his daughter, Michele Coffey and husband, Kim, of Shelbyville; sons, Anthony “Tony” Stewart of Shelbyville, and John “Jason” DeRoy and wife, Nita, of Runaway Bay, Texas; brother, Rod DeRoy and wife, Linda of Stillwater, Minnesota; sister, Betty Barber and husband, Wendell, of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Chandler Coffey and Mallory Herzberg, of Salem, Oregon, and Rebecca Coffey of Shelbyville; great-granddaughter, Mila Michele Coffey; nephews, Darin DeRoy and Aaron McClure ; and nieces, Lorrie Bass and Janelle Drake. He was also preceded in death by his parents. Duffy graduated from Southwestern High School in 1962. He was a U.S. Army and Indiana National Guard veteran. Duffy was a member of the Nineveh Christian Church, the American Legion Post No. 233 in Edinburgh, and Glenn’s Valley Conservation Club in Martinsville. A Gathering of Friends will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the Nineveh Christian Church, 1261 E 775 S, in Nineveh. A Celebration of Duffy’s Life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Pastor Tom Knight officiating. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post No. 233 of Edinburgh. Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
