Ellen McMahn Rigsbee, 92, of Shelbyville, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Johnson Memorial Hospital, in Franklin.
Born Dec. 24, 1912, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Thomas D. and Mary S. (Schauck) Stewart. She married Carroll McMahn and he preceded her in death. She married Emerson Rigsbee and he also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, Carolyn (husband, Robert) Mullins of and Ruth Ann (husband, Ralph) Willis; one stepdaughter, Jean (husband, Bill) Rigsbee; one sister-in-law, Daisey Stewart of Shelbyville; several nieces including, Mary Ellen Moore of Shelbyville; and several nephews including, Thomas E. Stewart of Indianapolis and John Allen Stewart of Shelbyville.
She also was preceded in death by one brother, John T. Stewart; and one stepson, William Rigsbee; one stepdaughter, Virginia Louise Buckley.
Mrs. Rigsbee was a teacher for more than 40 years, teaching at Thomas A. Hendricks Elementary School and schools in Franklin and Pendleton.
She graduated from Lebanon High School, received her teaching degree from Ball State University and attended Indiana University.
Mrs. Rigsbee was a member of First United Methodist Church, were she served as organist and pianist for several years; United Methodist Women; P.E.O. in Shelbyville and Franklin; and Retired Teachers Association in Shelby and Johnson counties.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Campbell officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
