Emma Jean Sturgill

Emma Jean (Raleigh) Sturgill, 89, went to be with the Lord on February 2, 2026.

She was born on March 22, 1936, in Letcher County, Kentucky to Hiram Raleigh and Dora (Rutherford) Raleigh. She married Bobby Gene Sturgill on July 21, 1956, and he predeceased her on June 23, 2019.

She leaves behind her children, Patricia (Tom) Houck and David (Tammy) Sturgill; sister Lillie Dixon, eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Kay Turner, her parents and four brothers and five sisters.

Emma Jean retired from Great States Corporation.

She loved gardening and spending time with her family. She cherished her family and friends and will be truly missed.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12 noon, Friday, February 6, 2026 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, Indiana.

Funeral services will be at 12 noon, Friday at the funeral home, Brad Davis will officiate.

Interment will be at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.
