F. Maxine Means, 99, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, November 15, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family and assisted by Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
She was born September 6, 1922, in Decatur County, the daughter of John and Bessie (Weare) Owen. On July 11, 1944, she married Ralph Burk Means, and he preceded her in death on February 28, 1990.
Maxine is survived by her daughters, Becky Scott and husband, Robert, of Marietta, Cinda Linney of Frankfort, Kentucky, Randi Dawson and husband, John, Janey Lyons and husband, Kent, and Tammie Hunt and husband, David, all of Shelbyville; son, Ralph “Eddie” Means of Shelbyville; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to Ralph, Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harvey Owen, Joe Owen, Tom Owen, Charles Owen and Randolph Owen; grandson, Rex Linney; and son-in-law, Benet Linney.
Maxine was the last surviving member of the graduating class of 1940 from St. Paul High School.
She worked at KCL Corporation, before and after the war, until retiring in 1993. Maxine also worked at Don’s Pizza.
Maxine enjoyed reading books, sewing, and making hand-stitched quilts. She loved spending time outside and creating memories with her family.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2021, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be in Moscow Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021.
