Ferris D. Ware, 93, of Shelbyville, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
He was born on October 1, 1932, in Cass City, Michigan, the son of Leo and Mardell (Starr) Ware. On December 20, 1958, he married his wife of 67 years, Carol Hempton, and she survives.
In addition to Carol, Ferris is survived by his daughters, Wendy Ware of San Diego, California, and Cynthia Schauer and husband, Nathan, of Golden, Colorado; son, Jeffrey Ware and significant other, Michelle Vanover, of New Palestine; granddaughters, Dr. Laura Schauer and husband, Aaron, Rachel Schauer and significant other, Matt, and Olivia Ware and significant other, James; sister, Donna Nye, of Cass City; brother, David Ware, of Cass City; sister-in-law, Joan Ware of Cass City; and several wonderful nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Ferris was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gordon Ware and James Ware; and sisters-in-law, Ella Jean Ware and Judy Ware.
In 1950, Ferris graduated from Cass City High School.
Ferris attended Shelbyville Community Church.
He formerly worked at Walbro Corporation in Cass City, for over 20 years. Ferris retired as the vice-president of Overhead Door in 1994, with 12 years of service.
Ferris enjoyed reading, writing and tending to his gardens.
He loved to spend time with his granddaughters.
A Celebration of Ferris’ life will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Friends and family may gather one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shelbyville Community Church, 720 N 325 E, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176 or Shelbyville-Shelby County Public Library, 57 W. Broadway St., Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
