Gary Lee Bowling, 70, of St. Paul, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis. He was born June 28, 1947, in Cumberland, Harlan County, Kentucky, the son of Amos and Wanda “Louise” (Presnell) Bowling. On May 29, 1970, he married his wife of 48 years, Mable Cornett, and she survives. In addition to Mable, Gary is survived by his daughters, Brenda Adams and husband, Roy, of DuPont, and Brandy Bowling of Shelbyville; sister, Jewel Bowling Scott and husband, Jimmy, of Lynch, Kentucky; brother, Lonnie Bowling, of Cumberland, Kentucky; grandchildren, Abigail Bowling, Bradley Swazay and Adelyne Bowling; and great-grandson, Kyson Wheeler. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Gary Lee Bowling II. He graduated from Cumberland High School in 1965, and attended college for two years. Gary and Mable attended Cornerstone Christian Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War, in 340 Supply Company 2nd Log Comd. Gary retired from Knauf Insulation in 2010, with 35 years of service. He was a supervisor and process technician. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Gary loved to spend time with his grandchildren. A gathering of friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2018 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, 941 E. 86th St., Suite 100, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240.
