Gene Weldon Carlton, 82, of Morristown, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, in Shelby County.
He was born on September 12, 1944, in Gwynneville, the son of Elmer R. and Florence B. (Noe) Carlton.
Gene is survived by his companion of 37 years, Patricia “Patty” Whittington of Morristown; daughters, Deena Baker of Linton, Trisha A. Carlton, and wife, Becky Reynolds, of Carmel, and Coleen Farris and husband, Kelly, of Morgantown; Patty’s children, Elizabeth, Toni, Tim and wife, Chris, and Terry and wife, Lisa; sister, Joann Tyner and husband, Lynn, of Morristown; grandchildren, Heather, Trent and wife, Karla, Leah and husband, Jeff, Travis, Garrett, Kaleb, Nathan and wife, Ashley, Sarah, Aiden, Aaren, Kyle and Kolin; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Carlton, Richard Carlton and William Carlton; son-in-law, Brad Baker; and sisters-in-law, Toni Carlton, Pat Carlton and Bev Carlton.
In 1962, Gene graduated from Morristown High School.
He worked for Terra/CPS, as a fertilizer applicator, retiring in 2012. After retirement, he worked for Nutrient Farms in Milroy.
Gene was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Fountaintown Volunteer Fire Department, Eagles Lodge, Lions Club and the American Legion.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 1 to 3 pm, Thursday, October 15, 2026 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 124 E. North St., in Morristown.
A Celebration of Gene’s life will follow at 3 pm, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fountaintown Volunteer Fire Department, 141 E. Brookville Road, Fountaintown, IN 46130 or the Boys and Girls Club of Shelby County, PO Box 57, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
