Geraldine "Jerri" Callahan-Turner

Geraldine “Jerri” Callahan-Turner, 93, of Shelbyville, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Morristown Manor in Morristown.

She was born August 21, 1933, near Oldenburg, the daughter of Joe and Willa (Fowler) Carpenter. On February 10, 1957, she married Albert Callahan, and he preceded her in death on August 11, 1994. She married Gus Turner on May 31, 1997, and he preceded her in death on July 15, 2015.

Jerri is survived by her daughter, Shannon Callahan-Mynatt and husband, Michael, of Shelbyville; son, Carey Callahan and wife, Emily, of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Daniel Schantz, Meghan Schantz, Lindsay Callahan Justin Callahan, Layla Hines, Charity Barnard, Michele Richey, Jack Mynatt and Ashley Mynatt; great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kylynne, Logann, Draven, Thia Ruth, Zachary, Brynn, Andrew, Addison, Lyla, Jack Jr., Eli and Lucas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Jerri graduated from Waldron High School.

She was an active member of Zion Evangelical Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and prepared the weekly newsletter. Jerri also attended Waldron Methodist Church.

Jerri was a farm wife. She enjoyed volunteering at Major Hospital, writing articles for the Shelbyville News, and running the hospice thrift store. Jerri also wrote beautiful poems.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm, Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St., in Shelbyville, and from 10 to 11 am Friday, September 11, 2026, at Zion Evangelical Church, 7025 E 100 N, Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 11 am, Friday, at the church.

Interment will be at Zion Cemetery in Shelby County.
