Gilbert Daniel "Gil" Bailey

Gilbert Daniel "Gil" Bailey, 81, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Shelbyville passed away Friday, September 13, 2019 at Apache Junction Nursing Home in Apache Junction, Arizona. He was born February 13, 1938, in Shelbyville, the son of Leroy Gilbert and Belva (Atwood) Bailey. On February 6, 1967, he married his wife of 52 years, Nancy Louise Anderson, and she survives. In addition to Nancy, Gilbert is survived by his sons, Danny Bailey and wife, Denise, of Shelbyville and Jason Bailey and wife, Jacqueline, of San Tan Valley, Arizona; daughter, Tammy Bailey of San Tan Valley; sisters, Patty McEntire and husband, Sam, Pam Scroggem and husband, Tim, Donna Kay Richey, and Loretta Brown and husband, Hallet, all of Columbus; brothers, Ed Bailey and wife, Barbara, Randy Bailey and wife, Mary, Bill Bailey, and Larry Bailey and wife, Beth, all of Columbus, and Norman Bailey of Scipio; mother-in-law, Helen Anderson of Shelbyville; brother-in-law, James Hamm of Columbus; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Carol Hamm. When living in Shelbyville, Gilbert was a member of Faith Trinity Pentecostal Church. After moving to Arizona, he was a member of the New Foundation Pentecostal Church in Mesa. Gilbert worked at KCL Corporation for 35 years, where he worked in plastic packaging. After he retired he worked at Mickey’s T-Mart for several years and helped with the local food pantries. He loved music, and was very talented in playing the steel guitar, harmonica and dobo. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2019 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the funeral home, with Pastor Perry Fouts officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
