Gordon L. Hood, 66, of Shelbyville passed away Friday, January 15, 2021, at MHP Medical Center in Shelbyville. He was born March 6, 1954, in Fairmount, the son of Gordon L. Hood and Donna Kinder. On December 30, 2017, he married Judith L. (Hill) Hood, and she survives. In addition to Judy, Gordon is survived by his sons, Gordon L. Hood and wife, Melissa, and Brandon Hood, both of Bloomington, Ryan Hull and Jonathon Hood, both of Shelbyville; daughters, Casandra Hood of Avon, and Kirsten Hood of Brunswick, Georgia; step-son, Chad Herndon and wife, Macaylee, of Flat Rock; step-daughter, Emily Kate Swigert and husband, Zak, of Shelbyville; brothers, William Kinder and wife, LeahRae, of Virginia, Jay Kinder of Florida, Larry Kinder of California, Chris Kinder and wife, Shelly, Les Kinder and wife, Tammy, and Jim Kinder and wife, Susan, all of Florida; sisters, Peggy Kirby and husband, Steve, and Linda Eccles, both of Indiana; grandchildren, Jazmin, Cassidy, Taj, Emmett, Alex, Autumn, Sebastian, Jaeden, Adley, Jaxxon and Maverick; one great-granddaughter, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wilbur and Pat Hill of Pennsylvania; sisters-in-law, Amy Hill of Shelbyville, and Lisa Millard and husband, Mark, of Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Don Kinder; daughter, Sonya Hood; and sister, Mary Ann Vetor. He graduated in 1972 from Madison Grant High School. Gordon was employed at Cornerstone Solutions for the last 16 years. Gordon was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Gulf War. He also served in the Army National Guard, as a helicopter mechanic, for 26 years. Gordon was a member of American Legion Post No. 70. He volunteered his service on the Blue River Festival Board for two years. Gordon also volunteered at The Strand where he helped with the remodeling and operated the sound board for various events. He also served on many boards at the Dry Dock. Gordon enjoyed gardening. Private family services will be conducted at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
