Gregory Dean "Greg" Armstrong

Gregory Dean “Greg” Armstrong, 70, of Shelbyville passed away Friday, August 23, 2019 at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis. He was born December 25, 1948 in Shelbyville, the son of William and Wanda (Brown) Armstrong. On August 11, 1972, he married his wife of 47 years, Bulah McQueary, and she survives. In addition to Bulah, Greg is survived by his daughters, Brenda Toon and husband, Danny, and Caroline Burton and husband, Frankie, both of Shelbyville; brothers, Mark Norvell of Shelbyville, and Drew Norvell of Greenwood; sisters, Melissa Meyerholtz and husband, Rod, of Shelbyville, and Natalie Simpson and husband, Jack, of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Tiki Havens and husband, Josh, Scott Abell and wife, Tanya, Ariana Toon, Jordan Toon, Kenzi Burton, Quinton Burton and Weston Burton; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Greg was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Lee Popplewell; daughter, Amy Armstrong; brothers, Michael Armstrong and Ronnie Armstrong; and daughter-in-law, Colleen Popplewell. He graduated in 1967 from Shelbyville High School. Greg was a disabled veteran serving during the Vietnam War, as a Marine. He was a former member of American Legion Post No. 70. Gregory enjoyed golfing and playing backgammon. Greg loved life and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his dogs, Sippy and Penny. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with military rites conducted by the local military committee at 7 p.m. Inurnment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date.
