Harold Lee “Shorty” Miller, Sr., of Shelbyville, received his angel wings surrounded by family on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at MHP Major Hospital, Shelbyville, IN.
Born on April 12, 1938, in Rush County, IN, he was the son of Ralph William and Freda Lucille (Stevens) Miller.
Harold attended Webb School, Rushville High School and Purdue University focusing on Animal Husbandry. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was stationed in Italy. He worked at Shelby Steel for 10 years, McGraw Edison for seven years, and retired in 1998 from BOC Gases f/k/a Airco Industrial Gases, after 20 years of service. He enjoyed family, travel, farming, antiques and sports.
His past and present memberships include the Rushville Church of Christ, Town & Country Christian Church, Million Mile Club, American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Veterans of Foreign War.
Surviving to cherish his memory are four daughters, Denica Hill, Serena (significant other, Thomas Dobbins) Baker, Angela (Ed) Hadley, all of Shelbyville, IN; Crystal (Phil) Dettmering, of Greenwood, IN; nine grandchildren, Derek Snyder, Nicole Coons, Kaylee Gaddie, Ryan and Alex Hadley, Brandy Moore, Taylor Cameron, Ethan and Noah Dettmering; 13 great grandchildren; and three brothers, Hugh Miller, Myron (Pam) Miller, and Dean Miller, all of Rush County, IN.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Harold Lee, Jr.; a brother, Michael Miller; and two sisters-in-law, Barbara Miller and Phyllis Miller.
Visitation will be from 10 am to Noon, on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN.
Funeral services will be at Noon, at the funeral home, with Rev. Jim Coyle officiating.
Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery, Rushville, IN., with military graveside rites conducted by the local military committee.
