Harold "Wayne" Gosch

Harold “Wayne” Gosch, 89, of Flat Rock, a lifelong Shelby County resident passed away Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis. He was born August 17, 1930, in Shelby County, the son of George F. and Laura Oma (DeBaun) Gosch. On November 24, 1959, he married Mildred Irene Burns, and she preceded him in death on June 8, 2003. He married Barbara Sisson on July 3, 2010, and she survives. In addition to Barbara and her loving family, Wayne is survived by his son, Brett Gosch and wife, Nancy, of Flat Rock; daughter, Teresa Pruett and husband, Roy, of Columbus; grandchildren, Kyle Evan Robertson and Alanna Nicole Robertson; and several nieces and nephews. Wayne was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lewis Gosch; and sister, Maxine Phillips. He graduated in 1948 from Flat Rock High School. Wayne was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He served 21 months, from June of 1951 to February of 1953, in the combat zone, in the 1169 Engineering Company of the 8th Army. Wayne made many lasting friendships during his service and enjoyed keeping in touch with his Army buddies. He was a member of the Norristown Community Church. Wayne was a welder for General Electric/Wellman from 1955 to 1992. He loved animals and nurtured many back to health. Wayne also enjoyed gardening, with his mother-in-law, Lillian. Wayne and a friend and co-worker, Bill Douglas, took on a project of building a hovercraft boat. Many hours were spent working on and enjoying the completed project. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2020 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. (There will be a limit of 50 people in the funeral home at any given time.) Private funeral services will be conducted. Interment will be at the Norristown Cemetery in Shelby County. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of Shelby County, PO Box 844, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
