Harry M. Campbell

Harry M. Campbell, age 87, of Shelbyville, Indiana passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2026 in Shelbyville.

Born May 4, 1939, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Hervan and Georgia (Smotherman) Campbell. He married Emily McKeand on March 15, 1972, and she survives.

Other survivors include his daughter, Julie Skillman (Richard) of New Albany, Indiana, and grandsons Trey Beatty of Jeffersonville and Max Beatty of New Albany; sisters, Ann (Steve) Wood of Indianapolis, Rita (Steve) Cooper of Avon, and Jeanne (Roger) Brock of Coatesville; nephews, Kent Wood, Kyle Cooper, and Bryan Brock; nieces, Beth Maris, Lauren Cozza, and Kristen Brock.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Harry retired in 2010 from Community Hospital of Indianapolis after 20 years of service as a registered nurse mostly in cardiac care. He had previously been employed by the former American Fletcher National Bank of Indianapolis and the former Shelby National Bank of Shelbyville.

He was a U.S. Air Force Reserve veteran serving from 1959 to 1965 in the 625th medical group.

Harry graduated in 1957 from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis. He was a 1965 graduate of the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in Bloomington. He was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity and the Society for the Advancement of Management. He was a life member of the Indiana University Alumni Association. He pursued a second degree in nursing from University of Indianapolis, graduating in 1991.

He was a member of the Speedway Masonic Lodge 729 F&AM, and the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. He was past president of the Shelbyville Kiwanis club and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville and served there as a deacon and volunteer for many years.

He also served on the board of directors of the former Shelby Community Health Center.

There will be a private service with interment in Forest Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville, IN. Visitation will take place from 11:30 am to 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026 with a memorial service immediately following at the First Presbyterian Church, 124 W. Broadway, Shelbyville, IN.

Pastor Gretchen Schneider of the First Presbyterian Church will be officiating. Freeman Family Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
