J. "Calvin" Berry

J. “Calvin” Berry Jr., 78, of Shelbyville, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at his home.

He was born October 15, 1947, in Huntington, Tennessee, the son of John Calvin Sr. and Callie Marie (Tubbs) Berry.

Calvin is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Diane (Berry) Forsey and husband, Joe, of Shelbyville; special friend, Karen Welty of Shelbyville; adopted daughter, Anita Welty of Shelbyville; sisters, Carolyn Sue Bullard and husband, Steve, Judy Marie Purtlebaugh and husband, Glen, and Patsy Fox, all of Shelbyville; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mert Berry; son, John Rodney Berry; daughter, Karen Renee Williams; and sister, Mary Kay Vaught.

Calvin retired on December 31, 2011, from Baylor Trucking, as a truck driver.

He was a member of the Church of God.

Calvin enjoyed baseball, wrestling and spending time with his grandchildren.

A Gathering of Friends and Family will be from 2 to 4 pm, Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with a Celebration of Calvin’s life to follow, with Pastor Bryan Justice officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of Shelby County, PO Box 844, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
