James Denton "Jim" Burdine Jr.

James Denton “Jim” Burdine Jr., 71, of Shelbyville, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026, at his home.

He was born on May 21, 1955, in Beech Grove, the son of James D. Sr. and Emma Ellen (Kirgen) Burdine. On September 7, 1973, he married his wife of 52 years, Jeannie Williams, and she survives.

In addition to Jeannie, Jim is survived by his daughter, Charity Burdine of Shelbyville; daughter-in-law, Lyn Burdine of Indianapolis; brothers, Otis Burdine and wife, Kay, of Fortville, and Tim Burdine of West Virginia; sister, Debbie Ester and husband, Kerry, of Georgia; brothers-in-law, Jeff Bolander of McCordsville, and Phillip Williams of Greenwood; grandchildren, Haley Brown, Xavier Brown, Alisha Burdine, Savannah Burdine, James Nowaczyk, Raegan Nowaczyk, and Evelyn Burdine; great-grandson, Atlas James; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Wesley “Jimmy” Burdine; sister, LuAnn Bolander; and sister-in-law, Alisa Burdine.

Jim retired from Crossroad Dairy in Indianapolis, in 2018, with 44 years of service.

He enjoyed the outdoors, whether he was fishing or camping. Jim was also a fan of the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR.

Jim loved animals and leaves behind his cat, Marbles. He also loved his childhood pet, Taffy.

Graveside services will be at 3 pm, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Mundell Cemetery in Heltonville, with Pastor Jeremy Barrett officiating.

Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
