John L. Luck

John L. Luck, 84, of Shelbyville passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at Morristown Manor in Morristown. He was born August 21, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Anthony Lee and Olive (Darrah) Luck. On June 11, 1960, he married Mary E. Edens, she preceded him in death on August 3, 2004. He married Margaret “Maggie” Bowser, on July 8, 2006, and she survives. In addition to Maggie, John is survived by his sons, Randy Luck of Beech Grove and Darren Luck of Shelbyville; daughter, Rene Fleming and son-in-law, Kenneth, of Arizona; step-daughters, Susan Brown of Padre Island, Texas, Carla DeSosa of Miami, Florida, Lisa Coy of Estora, Florida, and Dianne Delaney of Harlingen, Texas; grandchildren, Keilah Hamlin and Kameron Fleming; and three great-grandchildren, Jace and Lainey Hamlin, and baby boy Fleming to be born on December 19, 2020. He was also preceded in death by his parents. John received his bachelors degree from Indiana State University and his masters degree from Indiana University. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, for over 50 years. John taught at Silver Creek Junior High School in Sellersburg from 1961 to 1967. He retired from Shelbyville High School in 1991, with 24 years of service. John coached basketball at Silver Creek Junior High from 1961 to 1967, and basketball and track at Shelbyville High School from 1967 to 1972. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Reserves. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 70, Indiana Retired Teachers Association and the Shelby County Retired Teachers Association. John was a volunteer at Major Hospital for over 12 years, and he also enjoyed helping Shelby Senior Services with the annual Strawberry Festival. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2020 at First Church of the Nazarene, 2315 S. Riley Highway in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with Rev. Dr. Steve Bohall officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
