John S. "Steve" Fowler

March 21, 1951 — May 8, 2020

John S. “Steve” Fowler, 69, of Shelbyville passed away Friday, May 8, 2020, at his residence, peacefully with his loving family at his side. He was born March 21, 1951, in Indianapolis, the son of John D. and Edna L. (Butts) Fowler. On August 21, 1982, he married Carol Bennett, and she survives. In addition to Carol, Steve is survived by his children, Andrew Ogden (Wendi), and Amy Ogden Knight (Greg), both of Shelbyville, and Joshua Fowler (Andy) of Knightstown; sisters, Jane Harley (Michael) of St. Paul, Patricia Davis, Shelbyville, Marie Trogdan (Jamie) of Randlman, North Carolina, and Judy Berry (Eddie) of Farmer, North Carolina; brother, James Fowler (Carol) of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Madison Ogden, William Ogden, Matthew Bowers, Nathan Bowers, Ross Knight, Kayla Maynard, Zyon Maynard, Jacob Koedyker and Lucas Koedyker; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Steve graduated in 1969 from Shelbyville High School. He worked at Amtrak for 41 years, where he was affectionately known as “The Rock”, retiring in 2011, as assistant superintendent. Steve loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, riding in his golf cart and driving his Corvette. Steve also enjoyed tinkering in his garage, working on old cars and mowing his grass. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Private family services will be livestreamed at 7 p.m. Wednesday at https://www.facebook.com/freemanfamilyfuneralhomes Inurnment will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Shelbyville at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Sue Ann Wortman Nephrology Center, in care of the Major Hospital Foundation, 2451 Intelliplex Drive, Shelbyville, Indianan 46176.
