John William Schoentrup

December 16, 1935 — April 8, 2019

John William Schoentrup, 83, of Shelbyville passed away Monday, April 8, 2019 at Heritage House of Shelbyville. He was born December 16, 1935, in Shelby County, the son of Aloysius and Gertrude (Gosch) Schoentrup. On June 29, 1957, he married his wife of 61 years, Judith (Hiser), and she survives. In addition to Judy, John is survived by his son, John R. Schoentrup and wife, Sandra, of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Anthony Schoentrup and Sara Schoentrup; exchange students which became like family, Mette Videcrantz of Denmark and Kerstin Voight-Weinhold of Germany; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Richard Schoentrup and Aloysius Schoentrup Jr.; and sisters, Florence Ann Wisker and Katherine Wertz. John graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1953. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. John co-owned and operated ADA Feed and Grain, for over 50 years. He was an active charter member of the Blue River Lions Club. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2019 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with the rosary recited at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Father Mike Keucher officiating. Inurnment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Blue River Lions Club, 8025 SCR 250W, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
