Joseph R. Williams

Joseph R. "Joe" Williams, 65, of Shelbyville, died Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Indiana University Medical Center, in Indianapolis. Born Feb. 27, 1940, in Shelbyville, he was the son of the late Everett and Julia (Surber) Williams. He married Shirley F. Stapler on May 4, 1965, and she survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Lisa Renay (husband, David) Walker of Shelbyville; one brother, Clyde R. "Mort" Williams of Shelbyville; three grandchildren, Summer Marie (Phares) Schaf of Greenwood, Matthew Joseph Phares and Garrett Lee Phares, both of Shelbyville; two great-grandchildren, Jaydon Alisa Caye Gabbard of Greenwood and Brandon Lee Phares of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters. Mr. Williams was a self employed general laborer, working as a tree trimmer and junk man. He was a U.S. Army veteran, stationed in Canada. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday at Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Snyder Cemetery, with military rites conducted by local veterans organizations. Memorial contributions may be made to Joseph Williams Memorial Fund, in care of Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home, 819 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.
