Juanita W. Adams, 87, of Shelbyville, a treasured wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, at MHP Medical Center in Shelbyville.
She was born on January 29, 1939, in Hallie, Kentucky, the daughter of Pearl and Cinda (Smith) Watts. On March 12, 1957, she married her husband of 69 years, Bobby Gene Adams, and he survives.
In addition to Bobby, Juanita is survived by her daughter, Sheila Marie Adams-Sweet and husband, Tim, of Shelbyville; granddaughters, Jennifer Marie Batton and husband, Mark, and Anastasia Marie Smith and husband, Andrew; great-grandchildren, Virginia, Dorothy, Parker, Abigail, and Hudson; sisters, Christine Wooten, Glenna Sunn and Sharon Back; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Christopher Ryan Sweet; sisters, Velma, Virgie, Emma, Barbara and Effie; brothers, Eugene, Bobby Joe, William, Willie J., Fred and Lawrence.
She graduated from Stuart Robinson High School and obtained her Associates’ degree from Indiana Business College.
Juanita was a wonderful seamstress and worked at Shelby Manufacturing from 1957 to 1963; Elanjay from 1968; and at Pioneer Sports from 1984 until retiring in 1997.
She also enjoyed cooking and tending to her flower gardens. Juanita was a fabulous quilter and had made over 100 with the assistance of her husband.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am, Friday, May 1, 2026 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will follow at 11 am.
Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery.
