Juanita Waggoner, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family, on Friday, January 16, 2026. She was born on September 13, 1940, to Charles and Ruth (Cooney) Hickman, who instilled in her the values of faith, devotion, and kindness that shaped her life.
On January 19, 1957, Juanita married the love of her life, R. David Waggoner, beginning a marriage rooted in commitment, faith, and family. Together they built a life centered on love and service to others.
Juanita was a devoted member of Gwynneville Christian Church for 67 years, where her faith remained a guiding light throughout her life. She found joy in fellowship, worship, and quietly supporting those around her. Professionally, Juanita worked for JCPenney for 24 years, where she was known for her strong work ethic and warm spirit before retiring.
Family was Juanita’s greatest treasure. She is survived by her two children, Terri Hagel (Ted) and David Waggoner; four grandchildren, Amanda Mason (Keith), Elizabeth Rodenhuis (Eric), Alison Jackson (Eric), and Tommy Hagel (Jennifer); seven great-grandchildren, Shane, JD, Katie, Levi, Presley, Cole, and Layla; three step–great-grandchildren, Alissa, Taylor, and Alayna; and two great-great-grandchildren, Cora and Carter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Dave; her sister, Evelyn Mix; her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Joyce Hickman; and her daughter-in-law, Deborah Waggoner.
Juanita will be remembered for her quiet strength, unwavering faith, and the deep love she poured into her family. Her life was a testimony of service, grace, and devotion, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be from 10 am to Noon, Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 124 E. North St. in Morristown.
Funeral services will follow at Noon, with Pastors David Waggoner and Ted Hagel officiating.
Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.
