June "Marie" Smith

June “Marie” Smith, 96, of Greensburg, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Arbor Grove Village in Greensburg.

She was born on November 6, 1929, in Jackson County, the daughter of George and Daisy (McKain) Zanger.

Marie is survived by her brother, Clarence Zanger and wife, Mary, of Shelbyville; sisters, Mary Morrison and husband, Rev. Troy, of Nicholasville, Kentucky, and Verna Ratliff, Marjorie Kuhn, and Sherry Burton and husband, Larry, all of Shelbyville; sister-in-law, Melody Zanger; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother; brother, John Zanger; and brother-in-law, David Kuhn.

Marie was a member of the Evangelical Methodist Church.

She formerly worked at Elanjay Manufacturing Corporation from 1968 to 1980, and Pioneer Sports from 1986, until retiring in 1991. Marie was also a nurses’ and home healthcare aid.

Marie enjoyed donating for the care of wild horses, dogs and cats.

Visitation will be from 11 to Noon, Monday, June 8, 2026, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St., in Shelbyville.

Funeral services will follow, with Pastor Doug Preston officiating.

Interment will be at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.
