Karen Kay Griffith

Karen Kay Griffith, 78, of Shelbyville passed away Monday, June 29, 2020 at Cypress Run in Morristown. She was born December 7, 1941, in Linton, the daughter of Oscar T. and Naomi Ruth (Malone) Pilk. On September 18, 1977, she married Howard W. Griffith, and he preceded her in death on May 20, 1988. Karen is survived by two daughters, Cindy Land and husband, Buddy, of Indianapolis, and Tracy Sammons and fiance’, Andy Root, of Greensburg; twin brother, Kenneth Ray “Joe” Pilk Sr. and wife, Mary, of Shelbyville; five grandchildren, Joshua Land, Christy Sammons, Tara Grimes, Lesley (Sammons) Woodward and Rebekah Herald; great-grandchildren; Ashton, Hayden, Gianna, Benjamin, Azriel, Cadence, Tripp, Sariah, Jordan, Kiera, Shay and Alexandria; and niece, Valarie Gossage and husband, Scott, of Shelbyville. In addition to Howard, Karen was preceded in death by her parents; and nephew, Kenneth Ray “Joe Joe” Pilk Jr. Karen graduated in 1959 from Shelbyville High School and attended Porter Business College. She was formerly a supply clerk for the Federal Government, for 23 ½ years, at Grissom Air Force Base and Fort Harrison Self Service Center. Karen had also previously worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and Major Hospital. After retirement, she volunteered at Major Hospital. Karen was a member of The Church of the Firstborn in Edinburgh. She also leaves behind her dog, Odie Lee. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2020 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Bro. Chuck Vandermark officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelby County Animal Shelter, 705 Hale Road, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
