Karen Kay Tharp

Karen Kay Tharp, 78, of Morgantown, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.

She was born July 31, 1943, in Marion County, the daughter of Clayton and Edith Louise Moon.  On June 28, 1961, she married her husband of 61 years, Larry E. Tharp, and he survives.

In addition to Larry, Karen is survived by her daughter, Angela Wessler and husband, Mike, of Fishers; grandson, Garrick Wessler; and nieces, Bethany, Darcy and Alea.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Kaye Flanagan; son-in-law, David Flanagan; step-mother, Stella “Marcie” Allen; and brothers, Christopher Moon, Kevin Moon and Randy Moon.

She graduated in 1961 from Greenfield High School.

Karen was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

She was formerly a Girl Scout leader.

Karen enjoyed reading, cooking and visiting flea markets.

Visitation will be from Noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
