Karen Sue Williams, 63, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, December 4, 2023, at Indiana University Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born December 13, 1959, in Rush County, the daughter of  Norman and Rosemary Christina (Thomas) Gahimer.  On July 27, 1985, she married her husband of 38 years, Garrick Brian “GB” Williams, and he survives.

In addition to GB, Karen is survived by her son, Garrick Joshua Williams of Shelbyville; brothers, Norm T. Gahimer, Jerry L. Gahimer and wife, Kim, both of Shelbyville, and Phil L. Gahimer and wife, Doretta, of Manilla; and numerous  nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Jeffrey Allen Gahimer and Kenneth W. Gahimer.

In 1977, Karen graduated from Rushville Consolidated High School. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Indiana University Herron School of Fine Art.

She was a logistics manager for veterans hospitals in Indiana, Florida, Missouri, Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio.  Karen was often referred to as a leading expert in her field.

Karen enjoyed playing a variety of instruments, including the piano and her favorite, the guitar. She played for church services and sang in the choir. 

She loved folk music and was a member of the John Denver Fan Club, and had met John Denver in person.

Karen also loved animals and had a variety of pets throughout her life. Karen is survived by 14 rabbits, including Frisky and Spunky; a macaw, Emmett; toy poodle, Teddy; and several guinea pigs.

She pursued many ambitious hobbies, owning a small business selling home-made soap and pet beds. 

Karen traveled throughout the country and previously resided in Florida, Missouri, Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio.  Karen had also visited theme parks and zoos at Disney World, Universal Studios and Busch Gardens.

She also enjoyed illustrating animals with pastels and painting portraits.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 10 am, Thursday, December 7, 2023, at the funeral home, with Pastor Dwayne Russell officiating.

Interment will be at Zion Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice of charity.
