Kathryn Jean "Kathy" Bettner

Kathryn Jean “Kathy” Bettner, 62, of Boggstown, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Franciscan St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born September 27, 1955, at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada, the daughter of Walter Gene Hoop and Wilma (Love) Hoop Weaver. On April 19, 1974, she married her husband of 44 years, Nelson Duane Bettner, and he survives. In addition to Nelson, Kathy is survived by her parents, Wilma and Harold Weaver, of Shelbyville; sons, Walter Gene Bettner and wife, Pamela Sue, of Shelbyville, and Gary Duane Bettner and wife, Sally Lynn, of Boggstown; her sisters and brothers, Sandy Rush and husband, David, Gary Hoop, Greg Weaver and wife, Diana, Jim Weaver and wife, Sara, Susan Weaver and husband, Al, all of Shelbyville, and Doug Weaver and wife, Lori, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Howard E. and Edith A. Bettner of Geneva; grandchildren, Toby Eugene and Stephanie Marie; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Jadelynn and Heidi; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father. Kathy graduated from Southwestern High School in 1973. She was a member of the Boggstown Presbyterian Church, where she enjoyed Bible study and assisting with church fundraisers. Kathy began working at Beaty Construction, as a payroll supervisor in 1991, and retired in 2012, with over 20 years of service. She had previously worked at Spenex Corporation. She was also a member of the NRA and the Hoosier Unravelers. Kathy enjoyed quilting, embroidering, sewing and doing crafts. She also enjoyed going deer hunting with her husband and sons. She also leaves behind her dog, Jocko. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2018 at the funeral home, with Pastor Rik Spencer officiating. Interment will be at VanPelt Cemetery in Shelby County. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of Shelby County, P.O. Box 844, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
