Kenneth Ray "Kenny" Sexton

Kenneth Ray “Kenny” Sexton, 89, of Shelbyville, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.

He was born on August 15, 1937, in Letcher County, Kentucky, the son of Jack and Gertrude (Creekmoore) Sexton. On December 17, 1956, he married his wife of nearly 70 years, Dorothy Nigh, and she survives.

In addition to Dorothy, Kenny is survived by his daughter, Dawn Gilles and husband, Scott, of Shelbyville; sons, Kim Sexton and wife, Laura, of Fort Wayne, and Todd Sexton of Shelbyville; brothers, Mitchell Sexton of Oklahoma, and Donny Sexton and wife, Margie, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; sister, Diana Southgate of Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, Justin Sexton, Megan Schreiber and Sydney Schultz; great-grandchildren, Trystan Sexton, Hudson Schreiber, Lincoln Schreiber and Josie Schultz; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tony Sexton; brothers, Bill Sexton, Leroy and Bob Sexton; and sister, Martha Day.

In 1956, Kenny graduated from Shelbyville High School.

He worked as a tool and die maker for 60 years, retiring from Freudenberg, in 2016.

Kenny enjoyed playing golf and watching IU basketball.

A Gathering of Friends and Family will be from 5 to 6 pm, Friday, October 23, 2026 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, followed by a funeral service at 6 pm, with Rev. Mark Dodd officiating.

A Celebration of Kenny’s life will follow at his daughter, Dawn Gilles’ home at 1503 Oak Park Drive in Shelbyville.
