Kye Ja Huber, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, at the age of 82, following an aneurysm and stroke. Born on November 6, 1943, in Seoul, Korea, Kye’s life was marked by resilience, elegance, humor, and deep love for family.
As a young woman, Kye immigrated to the United States in search of opportunity and a brighter future. In San Diego, California, she met and married the love of her life, Rex Huber. Together they welcomed their daughter, Leslie Huber, before moving to Los Angeles, where they built a loving home and later brought Rex’s teenage children to live with them, creating a large, blended family rooted in care and devotion.
Kye worked for many years at the Department of Motor Vehicles, where she was known for her strong work ethic and spirited personality. Though dedicated to her career, she was an entrepreneur at heart. Alongside Rex, she pursued several small business ventures over the years, including a flower shop, restaurant, and gift basket business. Her creativity and eye for beauty shined through in everything she touched.
Small in stature but mighty in presence, Kye filled the world around her with beauty and joy. She lovingly created silk flower arrangements and succulent baskets for family, friends, and anyone in need of a thoughtful gift. She was stylish, funny, fiercely independent, and always dressed to impress. She loved traveling, laughing, and surprising others.
Kye is survived by her sisters, Kum Ja Park and In Sook Bahk; her daughter, Leslie Huber-Yedlin; her son, Joe Huber; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her strength, humor, and love. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Huber; her daughters, Annie Neal, Kelley Perea-Shafer, and Holley Huber-Hopkins; and her eldest sister, Kang Ja Park.
In a poignant reflection of their enduring bond, Kye and Rex passed away on the exact same day, one year apart. Rex died on February 12, 2025, and Kye followed him on February 12, 2026 — a testament to a love and partnership that lasted a lifetime.
Kye Ja Huber will be remembered for her generosity, her laughter, her impeccable style, and the immense love she poured into her family and community. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and the beauty she created everywhere she went.
Local arrangements were entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
