Laura Alice Weinantz, 91, of Greenwood, formerly of Shelby County, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022, at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin.
She was born September 12, 1931, in Shelbyville, the daughter of J. Everett and Florence T. (Whitehead) Grinstead. On July 26, 1975, she married Harold “Jean” Weinantz, and he preceded her in death on August 13, 2007.
Laura is survived by her son, Bruce Mann and wife, Carla, of Greenwood; son-in-law, David Vaught of Boggstown; bonus daughter, Monika Herkert Zeller and husband, Franz, of Mexico City, Mexico; sister, Harriett Banich of Brownsburg; grandchildren, Chad Vaught and Dustin Vaught and wife, Jennifer, both of Boggstown, and Zachary Mann and wife, Cassandra, of Hastings, Minnesota; great-grandchildren, Brinley Claire Vaught and Harper Vaught; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to Jean, Laura was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Robin Vaught; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Nettie Marie Weinantz; sisters, Rosanna “Rosie” Fuchs and husband, Delbert, Mary Wells and husband, Everett and Willa Hicks and husband, Malcolm; brothers, Sherrill Grinstead, Robert Grinstead and wife, JoAnn, and John Grinstead and wife, Faye and brother-in-law, Harold Banich.
Laura was a member of West Street United Methodist Church.
She attended Broad Ripple High School and began working for Indianapolis Legal Aid Society. Laura retired as a secretary for CertainTeed, PPG and Knauf Insulation, with over 30 years of service.
Laura was a Cub Scout den leader. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Golden Glow of Christmas Past.
She had a beautiful collection of antique Christmas decorations and holly china.
Laura loved gathering and hosting gatherings, especially for the holiday. As a tribute to her love of the holidays, the family encourages everyone to wear holiday apparel, even ugly sweaters, to her calling and service.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2022, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2022, at the Indiana Masonic Home Community Center, 590 Red Skelton Circle in Franklin.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at the Community Center, with Chaplain Elaine Clark officiating.
Interment will be at Flat Rock Cemetery in Flat Rock.
