Lois Irene Batton

Lois Irene Batton, 91, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, January 12, 2018 at MHP Medical Center in Shelbyville. She was born July 7, 1926, in Shelby County, the daughter of Walter and Lelah (Talbert) Bass. On February 10, 1945, she married her husband of 72 years, Lance Dale Batton, and he survives. In addition to Lance, Lois is survived by her five sons, Bruce Batton and wife, Wanda, of Shelbyville, Roger Batton and wife, Vickie, of Morristown, Philip Batton and wife, Michelle, of Shelbyville, Bill Batton and wife, Deena, of Greenfield, and Brian Batton and wife, Gina, of Shelbyville; sister, Ruth Long Carmony of Greenwood; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Lois is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Dorothy Ross, Elizabeth “Sib” Richardson and Mary Bolatto; and brother, Harold Bass. She graduated from Morristown High School in 1944. Lois formerly attended the Morristown Methodist Church. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in basketball and softball games. Lois also enjoyed watching Butler University and Indiana University basketball. She liked to bowl and was formerly a member of a bowling league. Lois enjoyed knitting and shopping. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Gary Jones officiating. Inurnment will be at Hanover Cemetery in Shelby County at a later date.
