Lowell Everett Williams, 97, of Shelbyville, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at MHP Medical Center in Shelbyville.
He was born June 9, 1928, at Ray’s Crossing in Shelby County, the son of Carl Everett and Ivy (Steward) Williams. Lowell married his high school sweetheart, Olive Lou Monroe, on July 9, 1950. They were completely devoted to each other for over 71 years, until her death in 2022. In addition to Olive Lou, Lowell was preceded in death by his parents.
Lowell is survived by his daughters Ronda Beth Fox of Richmond, Connie Browning and husband, Larry, and Kim Griffey and husband, Greg, both of Shelbyville; step-sister, Avonelle Good of Manilla; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Monroe, of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Carrie Jack and husband, Jesse, Adam Browning and wife, Maria, Bess Browning, Mike Griffey and wife, Tamara, and Anne Barnes and husband, Michael; great-grandchildren, Brody, Josie, Ivy, Judah, Elias, Elise, Connor, Savannah, Violet, Leah and Charlotte.
He graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1946, and attended Indiana University.
A faithful follower of Jesus Christ, Lowell was a member of Crossroad Community Church. He was also a member of the Indianapolis Downtown Kiwanis. In the past few years, Lowell enjoyed playing cards with his friends at Senior Services.
A child of the Depression era, Lowell learned the value of hard work. He loved to tell tales about his work escapades, beginning with his days helping on his grandpa's farm. Those stories would always turn to his great love of outdoor advertising, where he started in construction at age 16 and ended up retiring from his own company when he was 72.
People gravitated toward Lowell for his kindness and sweet nature. He loved his girls, his bonus boys, his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren, and his many friends. And oh, how we loved him. We will always cherish his memory. And we know he is in the presence of Jesus now, where he has heard, "Well done, good and faithful servant!" Matthew 25:23
