Marcia Lucille Miller, 74, of Fairland, passed away Friday, July 1, 2022, in Indianapolis.


She was born October 12, 1947, in Rochester, New York, the daughter of Edwin Allen Jr. and Lucille (Blair) Miller.


Marcia is survived by her son, Todd Miller of Fairland; sister, Sallie Houpt and husband, Kevin, of Marion, Ohio; brother, Peter Miller and wife, Freeda, of Monroe, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents.


After graduating from, Frontier Central High School in Hamburg, New York, Marcia received her BA in Education from Ashland University, and obtained her MS in Education and School Psychology from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.  From Butler University, she received her Life License in Special Education and Guidance Counseling.  She also held a life license in school psychology in Indiana.


She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.


Marcia was an educator and school psychologist, retiring in 2020. She worked from 1977 to 2003, for MSD Perry Township, RISE in Indianapolis.  Marcia provided psychological assessments to students from preschool through high school.  She conducted group counseling sessions for students returning from treatment facilities.  Marcia also conducted a community suicide program for Beech Grove High School, which included counseling specialties from hospitals, agencies and RISE.  Group counseling for behavior disordered adolescents at Franklin Township Middle School and assisting in the development of IEP’s and classroom intervention programs.


She was also a member of ARC and Civil Air Patrol.  Marcia obtained her civilian pilot license at a young age. 


Marcia was a 4-H and Boy Scout Den leader.  She also volunteered on CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), was a board member of ARC of Hancock County, Indiana and Edelweiss Therapeutic Academy in Greenfield.


She loved her farm. Marcia had numerous animals that she had rescued. Her love for animals had begun when growing up near the Buffalo Zoo where she dreamed of one day owning her own farm. She was also a avid equestrian rider where she would show competitively in various activities such as jumping, English, and Western pleasure.


A gathering of Marcia’s family, friends and celebration of her life will be held at a later date.


Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Memorial contribution may be made to RISE, ARC or the Humane Society.
