Mary Jo Ruble, 75, of Waldron, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at The Waters of Rushville in Rushville.

She was born July 2, 1948, in Rushville, the daughter of Jesse Vernon and Edna Francis (Matthews) Patterson.  On December 4, 1966, she married her husband of 56 years, John William Ruble, and he survives.

In addition to John, Mary Jo is survived by her daughters, Angie (Ruble) Perry and husband, Kent, of Indianapolis, and Heather (Ruble) Moore and husband, Jeff, of Rushville; sons, Joshua Ruble and wife, Laura, of St. Joseph, Michigan, and Mike Bussberg and wife, Tessa, of Rushville; brother, Bill Patterson of Rushville; sisters, Ruth Ann Weisner of Greensburg, and Nancy Beckner of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Jenna (Perry) Devaul and husband, Will, Brock Perry and fiance’, Chloe, Trey Perry and wife, Brianna, Noah Perry and fiance’, Haylin, Cole Perry, Deven Moore and wife, Alex, Kilee (Moore) Struewing and husband, Brian, Aeden Ruble, Seamus Ruble, Anna Rose Ruble and Mydland Bussberg; great-grandchildren, Henry Devaul, Evelynn Devaul, Brantly Moore and Turner Moore; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Mike Patterson; and sister, Betty Walker.

In 1966, Mary Jo graduated from Milroy High School.

She was a devoted lifelong member of Moscow Christian Church, where she assisted with Vacation Bible School (VBS), taught Sunday school, directed musicals, played the piano and was a member of the Praise Team.  Mary Jo was also a church camp dorm mom.

Mary Jo was a pre-school teacher’s assistant for over 20 years, helping many children at several schools including Hendricks, Coulston and Waldron.

She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, cooking and baking.

Mary Jo loved children, especially her grandbabies.  She and John were gifted with the opportunity of being foster parents and they created lasting memories with all of their children.

A Gathering of Friends and Family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2023, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

The Celebration of Mary Jo’s Life will be at 7 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home, with George Huff officiating.
