Mary Kathleen "Kathy" Kuhn Wright

Mary Kathleen “Kathy” Kuhn Wright, 75, of Manilla passed away Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville. She was born March 29, 1944, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Chester George Kuhn and Eileen (Mull) Kuhn Bogeman. On December 24, 1967, she married her husband of 51 years, Michael R. “Mike” Wright, and he survives. In addition to Mike, Kathy is survived by her daughters, Amanda K. Matheny and husband, Mark, of Columbus, and Abby L. Wright of Mattoon, Illinois; sister, Linda Adkins and husband, Steve, of Shelbyville; brother, Calvin Kuhn and wife, Elizabeth, of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Ben Matheny and MaryBeth Jones and husband, Josh; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and step-father, Paul V. “Bill” Bogeman. Kathy graduated from Manilla High School in 1962, and received her Bachelors degree in elementary education in 1966 from Indiana State University. In 1969, she obtained her Masters degree in elementary education from Ball State University. She was a lifelong member of Zion Evangelical Church in Shelby County and an associate member of Rotonda West Community Church in Rotonda, Florida. She played the piano and organ, sang in the choir and participated in the ladies’ groups at both churches. Kathy also served on the Bread and Blessing Committee at Zion Evangelical. Kathy taught elementary education for 32 years, and was the elementary librarian for the last 10 years, retiring in 2000. She taught in numerous schools within the Rush County and Shelby Eastern School Districts. She was also a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, Daughters of the American Revolution, Manilla Town and Country Homemakers Club, Rush County Extension Homemakers, Rush County Chorale, Master Gardeners, Antler Pointe Ladies Golf League, Rush County Retired Teachers Association, Heart ‘n Hand Quilters Guild, Rushville Sewing Guild, Rush County Players, Rush County Genealogical Society and The Mixers Homemaker Club in Carthage. Kathy was very talented in crafting projects, among her talents were sewing, quilting and painting shells. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Zion Evangelical Church, 7025 E 100 N, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with Pastor Brad Schultz officiating. Interment will be at Zion Cemetery in Shelby County. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Evangelical Church, Rotonda West Community Church, 501 Rotonda Boulevard West, Rotonda West, Florida, 33947 or donor’s choice of charity.
